Creative Expression: Face Art

My friend, Karen Merhinger, said it best in her Healing Grief and Living Fully newsletter ... "When we express ourselves creatively, our vital energy flows, we are in the moment, and our hearts are open."

I have experienced this ... hours pass as I create my "little pieces of art" that I discovered during my Reverb '12 project. I feel productive. I surprise myself as the creative process unfolds and shows something evolving out of nothing ... out of the blank canvas. One might consider this a bit of a self-portrait ... the side I'm willing to share ... the side I want to focus on. Yes, there is a darker side. I try not to let it take over.

I have been asked what I've been doing to keep busy while I look for work ... I must say, I've been staying busy with my creative expression. It is the one thing that draws me in even though there are lots of other things I probably should be doing ... cleaning house, organizing, purging. Ah, the life of a creative ... a life a little bit crazy. It all begins with the question: I wonder how you do that?

  1. Wonderful piece! I think you stay plenty busy, much better than sitting around in your p.j.'s watching t.v.

  3. I see a creative eye in the self-portrait with your words constructing the cranium :) Very clever

  4. Neat, you cannot create and clean house. I would recreate, years from now who know your house was dirty, but you could have a masterpiece instead.

  8. I think this is my favorite piece of yours. Beautiful! I believe this creative break/splurge you're allowing yourself will lead to your next big thing. :)

  10. What a wonderful post this is, Lissa, and I cannot tell you just how much I have learned by just asking that one little question!

  11. Oh, Lissa. I tell you, your words, your work, your spirit--I have no doubt that in the real world, we would be "real world friends" not just "blog world friends."

That question. . . isn't it just the beginning of everything?

Coming here is a bit like coming home. It's like recognizing that there are so many others on this creative journey and while the roads might look different, the heart is the same.

I've said it before, but I have to say it again. . . I really, really appreciate you.

  12. Lissa, this is just fabulous! You should teach a class. I keep intending to join in the "Walk and Click Wednesdays", but life keeps getting in the way. Soon......
