Walk and Click Wednesdays #9: Inside and Outside

I was the lucky recipient of a purchase code for iColorama from Geri Centonze who has emersed herself in iPhoneography. Thanks so much, Geri!

Well, I can't tout taking my pictures with an iPhone, but I have played with cell-phoneography using my new HTC EVO 3D. And iColorama is a very cool photo-editing app. I've found my favorite processing already. So here you go ... my apologies to those of you who have seen these on Instagram. ;->

Leaves on a walkway ...

A fellow at the mall who got his head shaved with a decorative design ...

Mother and son from the second floor ...

Kobi sleeping after a long walk ...

I did take my usual walks this week with Kobi on the path that goes to the creek, but I thought it might be more interesting to share my photos of the walk I purposefully took to the mall in an effort to get some "street photography." I still feel very self-conscious ... I can't seem to take the pictures head on knowing my "victims" will see me taking the picture. I'm much more comfortable asking permission, but then people change and you don't catch their behavior spontaneously. There much be some compromise. I'll keep trying.

~~~~~~~~~
Hope you're all having a great week. I look forward to seeing you here for Walk and Click Wednesdays. Can't wait to see what you saw on your strolls.
Please join me in the adventure. The only "requirement" other than those below is that you go out walking and take some pictures. Please keep in mind that you don't have to walk, take pictures, process them, and post all on Wednesday ... take the weekend before to explore and a few days to process your photos ... then link up.
Are you new to Walk and Click Wednesdays? The party will open on Wednesday and close on Saturday at midnight.
Walk and Click Wednesdays #8: Breaking Through People Photo Phobia
Today signifies a bit of a different kind of walk ... I stepped into a new world ... that of portrait photography. Although, I was certain there was no reason to be concerned, this type of photography has not been in my realm of specialty. You, my readers, know that I stick to nature and landscape photos.
As I drove to Sylvia and Terry Keepers' home, all I could think is this will help me get over my People Photo Phobia. What a great couple to "cut my portrait teeth" on. They are gentle, warm, caring souls and I am lucky to have met them.
I'm working on Terry's new book: Homesteading the Soul: A Spiritual Apprenticeship with a Prairie Grandfather, which we hope to have completed by January/February 2013 (maybe sooner). I've done the cover design, will be laying out the interior, and am providing self-publishing consulting. It's a very engaging book, which brought laughter and tears alike as Terry pulled me in and made me love his real-life characters.
A candid moment in which I asked them to remember a secret.
A pensive moment ...
Terry's book is a captivating amalgam of memoir,  history, and philosophy. I know you will love to curl up under a comforter with a warm brew and escape to another time, as I did.
More to come ... I'll keep you posted as things progress.
Walk and Click Wednesdays #7: Colors of the Sky
I've been busy working on a book project that has captured my heart: Homesteading the Soul. I'm so excited to help my client prepare this for self-publishing. Although the layout and design is what makes my heart sing, I was able to contribute with the editing, and I've done a mock-up of a cover, which I just finished. Can't wait til I can post it--gotta get client approval first!
Of course, breaks are always in order and the puppy dog needs to take me for a walk, so here are some images I captured over the last couple of days.
All images taken with my HTC EVO phone.
Tales from Kobi: Phone Fun
Well, Mom's been having lots of fun with her new phone and has even found some neat apps for processing including Instagram. For those of you on Instagram, I'm sure she'd love it if you'd hook up. @lafcustomdesigns
Used PhotoFunia templates for processing the above images.
And then last night, Mom took me on a walk on our favorite neighborhood path. The sun was setting behind the clouds--a cool evening. And since Mom had just downloaded Instagram, she was experimenting, but barely got a couple images uploaded before her battery went kaput.
But, those weren't her first Instagram photos ... before we went for a walk, while she was playing, she took this one of me. Gotta love the dreamy effect, don't ya think?
Hope she gets to see some of you on Instagram! Until next time; enjoy yourselves, take lots of pictures, and don't forget to share. In the meantime, I think I'll take a nap.
Tales from Kobi: Mom Graduated!
My mom's been a little wonky lately. ;-> Last week she got a new cell phone ... an HTC EVO V 4G--graduating from the Blackberry Bold she's had for three years. She was so excited to get it, then had a little trouble with the transition and was without a working phone for a full day. Wow ... you'd think that would be a pleasant reprieve, but I can tell you she was a bit stressed out.
Now that she's had the phone a week, she's doing great, but honestly, she's a bit addicted. I think she pets that phone more than she pets me!!
Anyway, she wanted me to let you know what a great deal she got. The phone was on sale on Virgin Mobile, so she got a $60 discount and the phone is paid for. And the best part--her monthly bill is almost half that of her previous service with T-Mobile and she didn't even have text. So now she has almost as many talk minutes and unlimited text and data. It's a lot to get used to I guess, but I think she's got it down now. She even downloaded a Flashlight app last night and shined it all over me. ;-> Cool.
In addition, she got a neat protective case for almost nothing on Amazon. She calls it her faux iPhone. I mean, geez, it has lots of the same features and even some advantages. She currently has 8GB storage, but rather than buying a new phone to increase it, she can just buy a new chip. Yay!
Now that she's got it figured out, all is good in her world again and things are starting to settle down around here.
I just gotta love that she features me on her phone(s). Now that's love, for sure.
Walk and Click Wednesdays #6: SERENITY
The text book definition of serenity is The state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled: "an oasis of serenity."
Synonyms: calmness, hush, peace, peacefulness, placidity, quiet, quietness, quietude, repose, restfulness, sereneness, calm, still, stillness, tranquility
I suspect some may not consider the chaos of lots of dogs at a dog part serene, but what I did find tranquil was the surroundings.
Although the temperature only got up to about 50º today and clouds blanketed the sky, the brown carpet of winter grass in contrast with the indigo sky provided a placid backdrop. I found it peaceful to let Kobi to play with new friends, to chat with strangers, and to get a bit of exercise regardless of the temperature.
Yep, that's my Kobi on the bottom right ... he found a rope toy at the park and wow, he was off and running teasing the other dogs. I only had my new HTC phone with me, so it was challenging to capture all the dogs in motion. Glad I got this anyway.
No more prompts .... <sigh>
I know some of you like prompts, but I want to return to my original thought for this venue--to go out for a walk at least once a week and discover something unnoticed, unseen before. Honestly, I don't like being pre-programmed ... I like to just go out and see what I see ... allow myself to discover something new even if I'm walking the same path for the 15th time. I believe there is growth that occurs in the discovery that can't be experienced when one is looking for something that someone else prescribes.
I hope you'll join me in the adventure. The only "requirement" other than those below is that you go out walking and take some pictures. Please keep in mind that you don't have to walk, take pictures, process them, and post all on Wednesday ... take the weekend before to explore and a few days to process your photos ... then link up.
Walk and Click Wednesday #5: 50 Shades of RED
Well, it is still Wednesday, so technically I made it, but I apologize for not having this post up earlier. I've gotten a bit side-tracked with job interviews, inspirational recordings, and a new cell phone with a much more cost-efficient phone plan with Virgin Mobile! Remember you can post your links until midnight on Saturday.
So, now down to business ... here are a few of my 50 Shades of RED. ;-> Have you noticed that there are a LOT of shades of red in nature? I took a stroll along Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado over the weekend. I love watching the people there as well as enjoying the lovely landscaping and sunshine.
I was called to capture these various reds. There were also some great musicians playing harp, viola, and some sort of horn ... I'll post those images in the next couple of days.
I look forward to seeing what you came up with this week and thank you for your patience.
PROMPT for NEXT WEEK - 10/10/12:
For those who like a prompt, I'd like to propose something a bit more challenging--SERENITY. What symbolizes serenity as you wander near and far. Does a creek or bench call your name? Do you prefer a mountain top? Or a meadow? We are getting a cold front here in Colorado, so I'll probably be staying close to home this weekend as I capture my serenity photos.
Please keep in mind these prompts are just to get you walking ... and thinking ... taking pictures. If they don't work for you, don't let that stop you. Share what you get! Until next week, keep walking and clicking! ;->
